Retiring in 2011 after a rewarding 31-year career as Navigation Officer and Captain with the Canadian Coast Guard, Gary worked part-time for 4 years with the Michele Stevens Sailloft where he learned the art of sailmaking and practiced his rigging talents on some exciting projects from large schooner sails to bags and covers.

When his sailmaking friend and mentor returned to his own shop, Gary joined Durk in 2016 to continue the challenge of producing high quality sails and learn new skills.

As the workload and weather permits, Gary enjoys his semi-retirement and the fun and relaxation of sailing his 1974 Albin Ballad on Mahone Bay.
